Progreso, Yucatán — The traditional Christmas walk over the sea has been scheduled for Sunday, December 7, 2025, at the arched pier in Progreso, as announced by the Administration of the National Port System (Asipona), the company that manages the deep-water port of Yucatán.

Asipona Progreso opened online registrations on Thursday night (November 27, 2025) for the Christmas Sunset Walk at the Port, the new official name of the event.

Christmas Sea Walk with Limited Capacity

This year, the traditional Christmas walk has a limited capacity for 6,000 people, Asipona specified on the event’s microsite.

On Friday, according to the microsite, at 9:45 a.m., 977 people had registered, occupying 1,777 spots, as one person can register up to four companions.

However, at 10:53 a.m., the microsite reported 1,802 people registered and 2,597 spots occupied.

Regulations

During registration, Asipona Progreso reminds participants of the activity’s regulations, which prohibit walking on the viaduct sidewalk and the entry of food, alcoholic beverages, sharp objects, fireworks, flammable substances, skates, skateboards, bicycles, and skateboards, among other safety measures.

It also reminds that pets are allowed but must be on a leash and controlled and monitored at all times, in addition to carrying bags to collect and dispose of their waste.

Entry to the arched pier on December 7 will be free and only from 3 to 4 p.m. To enter, it is mandatory to present the QR code downloaded at the time of registration.

People will have two hours to enjoy the sunset on the arched pier, as the walk itself will be from 4 to 6 p.m.

Finally, Asipona Progreso reminds participants: Do not forget to bring comfortable clothes and lots of desire to walk on the world’s longest pier!

The 2023 and 2024 Christmas Sea Walks

According to Diario de Yucatán archives, Asipona canceled the Christmas Sunset over the Sea walk scheduled for December 10, 2023, due to a northerly wind that forced port closures, and it was eventually held on January 15, 2024, with the participation of nearly 3,500 people.

For this reason, families enjoyed two walks on the arched pier in 2024, as the Christmas Sunset over the Sea was held on December 15, in which—according to Asipona—about 736 people “walked nearly 2 kilometers in a festive atmosphere, set to Christmas music, special lighting, and themed characters that gave away smiles and unforgettable moments.”

For the walk, Asipona Progreso closes the deep-water port to the passage of trailers transporting goods arriving or departing by ships.

This year, the traditional Christmas walk on the arched pier will take place 11 days after the elevated viaduct for trailers going to and from the Progreso deep-water port entered service on Wednesday, November 26.
