The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) in Quintana Roo is set to distribute more than 5,000 doses of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in the coming months. Guillermo Amílcar Rodríguez Hipólito, Head of Nursing at the Family Medicine Unit number 15 of IMSS Quintana Roo, stated that the institute is participating in the national HPV vaccination campaign. This campaign started on September 2nd and will continue until December 18th.
IMSS plans to distribute 5,600 doses across the state, with 5,370 intended for fifth-grade girls and 230 for unschooled 11-year-old girls. Rodríguez Hipólito stressed the importance of educating parents and the public about the safety and availability of these free vaccines. He also noted that the vaccines are available to everyone, regardless of their IMSS affiliation, and asked parents to bring a printed copy of their daughters' CURP.
The vaccine is targeted at a variety of groups, including fifth-grade girls, unschooled 11-year-old girls, young women, and adolescents who have been sexually assaulted. It is also intended for men and women aged 11 to 49 who are living with HIV, and adolescents aged 12 to 16 who have not previously been vaccinated.
As per the latest epidemiological report from the federal Health Department, as of September 10th this year, there have been 126 reported cases of HPV in Quintana Roo, with 110 in women and 16 in men.
