Quintana Roo, Mexico — The Secretary of Government of Quintana Roo has announced the implementation of new measures to improve security in transportation services provided through digital platforms. The strategy involves the incorporation of geolocation systems in taxis and private transportation units, linked to the C5 emergency system, in order to activate rescue protocols in risk situations.

Protocols and Technology to Protect Users, Especially Women, Following Recent Incidents in Cancun

In response to recent events that highlighted vulnerabilities in the digital platform transportation sector, authorities in Quintana Roo are preparing to strengthen protective measures for users. These actions are part of a regulatory framework that seeks to guarantee minimum security conditions, emphasizing the protection of women, who represent an especially vulnerable group within existing transportation modalities.

This security plan has been developed in joint working sessions between officials and representatives of various platforms, although it is currently on pause due to a judicial suspension requested by Uber, which challenged certain technical requirements. The suspension has affected the application of these measures in private transportation, leaving some regulatory advances on hold.

Despite this, authorities insist on the need to maintain solid and reliable protocols to strengthen user confidence and prevent incidents that compromise their well-being. Currently, more than three thousand digital transportation units operate in the region, regulated under federal standards, in a context where security remains a priority for the state government.
