Cancún, Mexico — Quintana Roo has been confirmed as the host of the 2026 National Banking Convention, one of the most important financial sector events in Mexico, which will be held for the first time in its history in Cancún from March 18 to 20, 2026. State authorities announced the news during the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) 2026 in Madrid, Spain.
Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa and Eduardo Osuna Osuna, vice president and general director of BBVA Mexico, provided the official confirmation of the event following a working meeting in the Spanish capital. The convention, organized by the Mexican Banking Association (ABM), will bring together the main players of the national financial system at the Hotel AVA Resorts.
During the meeting, authorities discussed progress, logistical requirements, and operational needs to ensure the realization of this high-level forum, which positions Quintana Roo as a strategic point not only for tourism but also for economic and business events.
“Good news for Quintana Roo from Madrid, from FITUR: the 2026 Banking Convention in Cancún is confirmed,” highlighted Lezama Espinosa, who explained that in addition to confirming this event, they discussed investment opportunities in the state and the role of financial commerce in generating development.
This gathering is considered the most relevant event in Mexico’s financial sector, as it brings together banking leaders, economic authorities, investors, and decision-makers around topics such as financial stability, innovation, digitalization, and economic perspectives for the country.
The confirmation of the convention in Quintana Roo represents an opportunity to strengthen the local economy, attract investment, and expand the international visibility of the destination, which is consolidating itself as a host for strategic events during the 2025–2026 period, in a context that includes the proximity of the 2026 Soccer World Cup and other global-scale meetings.
With this designation, Cancún continues to position itself as a versatile destination: capable of combining tourism, business, and investment, reinforcing its role as a national and international reference point in organizing high-impact economic and social gatherings.
