Quintana Roo, Mexico — A viral video circulating on social media has sparked public outrage after showing a Quintana Roo State Police patrol vehicle striking a small dog, leaving the animal severely injured and abandoned on the sidewalk. Despite exiting the vehicle, the officers failed to provide assistance, and the dog later succumbed to its injuries. Authorities have confirmed an internal investigation is underway.

Video Evidence Triggers Investigation

The footage, shared widely on platforms including Twitter, captures the moment the police vehicle hits the dog. Officers are seen stepping out of the patrol car but making no effort to aid the wounded animal, instead leaving it on the curb. The exact location of the incident remains unspecified.

The Quintana Roo Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) issued a statement acknowledging the video and confirming that its Internal Affairs division has launched a formal probe. “The SSC informs that the Internal Affairs area has initiated an investigation into the events observed in the video, where a State Police patrol is seen striking a dog,” the agency stated.

Public Outcry and Official Response

Public backlash has been swift, with social media users condemning the officers’ actions and demanding accountability. The SSC emphasized its commitment to animal welfare and the rule of law, pledging to take “necessary measures” and impose sanctions if warranted.

“The SSC reiterates its commitment to life, animal protection, and respect for the law. Any act contrary to these principles will be sanctioned,” the agency added. It also thanked citizens for reporting the incident and assisting in monitoring police conduct.

Investigation Pending Further Action

While the SSC has not disclosed the identities of the officers involved or potential disciplinary measures, the case has drawn significant attention to animal cruelty and police accountability in the region. The agency vowed to ensure transparency and uphold its “zero impunity” policy.

The incident has reignited discussions about animal rights and the ethical responsibilities of law enforcement, with advocates calling for stricter enforcement of protections for stray animals.
