Cancún, QRoo — Quintana Roo ended 2025 as the third state with the greatest decrease in intentional homicides nationwide, according to official data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (Sesnsp).

During La Mañanera del Pueblo, held this Thursday in Morelos, President Claudia Sheinbaum reported that nationally there was a 40 percent reduction in intentional homicides between September 2024 and December 2025, reaching the lowest level since 2016.

The president stated that this decrease represents 34 fewer homicides daily, a result of the consolidation of the security strategy implemented by the federal government.

For her part, Marcela Figueroa Franco, head of the Sesnsp, detailed that at the beginning of the analyzed period the country recorded an average of 86.9 daily homicides, a figure that fell to 52.4 daily cases in December 2025.

According to the report, the states with the highest percentage reductions in intentional homicides were Zacatecas, with a decrease of 71.1 percent; Chiapas, with 58.6 percent; and Quintana Roo, with 56.8 percent, placing the latter among the entities with the best results in security matters.

In contrast, Guanajuato, Chihuahua, and Baja California led the list of entities with the highest number of homicides during 2025.

The report also indicates a downward trend in most high-impact crimes, such as femicide (-15.2%), intentional injuries (-11.3%), robbery with violence (-14.7%), and vehicle theft with violence (-19.5%). However, extortion presented an increase of 2.3 percent, being the only high-impact crime with an increase in the analyzed period.
