Chetumal, Quintana Roo — The XVIII Legislature of the State approved a reform aimed at closing detected gaps and eliminating the last vestiges of sexist language so that the governing document of this power accurately reflects the plurality and dignity of all people who comprise it, in order to consolidate the Legislative Power as a vanguard institution fully consistent with human rights.
The reform also seeks to systematically, transversally, and definitively incorporate inclusive and non-sexist language throughout its entire body of articles, ensuring that the scope of the reform is not limited to isolated corrections but involves a meticulous purification process of all provisions where inconsistencies in androcentric language persist.
This requires institutionalizing the use of linguistic mechanisms accepted in legal drafting that meet the criteria of visibility and non-discrimination, avoiding the generalization of the masculine and privileging forms that name all people with accuracy and respect.
In ordinary session number 28, a reform to the Organic Law of the State Attorney General’s Office was also approved to change the name of the current Specialized Attorney’s Office for Combating Environmental Crimes, Wildlife, and Urban Development to “Specialized Attorney’s Office for Combating Environmental Crimes, Animal Protection, and Urban Development.”
The measure not only strengthens the institutional framework for addressing crimes of animal abuse and cruelty but also contributes to generating a culture of respect and responsibility toward sentient beings.
It is worth mentioning that the revenue law initiatives for the municipalities of Isla Mujeres, Benito Juárez, José María Morelos, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, and Othón P. Blanco were read and referred to committees for their respective analysis.
Previously, the initiatives corresponding to the municipalities of Lázaro Cárdenas, Puerto Morelos, Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, and Bacalar had already been referred to committees.
