Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Quintana Roo officials signed an agreement on Thursday to implement a standardized protocol for protecting children and adolescents in the state’s tourism industry.
Tourism Secretary Bernardo Cueto led the signing ceremony and installation of a working group on behalf of Governor Mara Lezama. The protocol aims to prevent and eradicate crimes against minors in tourist areas.
“The objective is clear: build a state mechanism that strengthens public-private cooperation and guarantees real, effective protection through a solid, standardized protocol,” Cueto said.
He emphasized that the agreement represents a firm decision to turn prevention into concrete actions and block exploitation and violence against children.
The protocol authorizes the Tourism Department to coordinate with agencies in the Comprehensive Protection System for Children and Adolescents. Officials highlighted that Quintana Roo, as a global tourism leader, reaffirms its commitment to responsible, ethical tourism that protects children’s rights.
The effort includes participation from Grupo RIU, ECPAT, hotel associations, authorities, and the Quintana Roo DIF System, forming an alliance to position the state as a safe, responsible destination committed to child welfare.
