Cancún, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa and Mexico’s Secretary for Women, Citlalli Hernández Mora, unveiled a new digital application called “Maya: Mujeres Acompañadas y Atendidas” (Women Accompanied and Attended) on International Women’s Day. The app is designed to protect, support, and empower women across Quintana Roo.
Governor Lezama described the launch as a historic step, noting that Maya integrates with the National Database and Information Bank on Cases of Violence Against Women (Banavim). This interoperability aims to improve coordination between institutions and provide more timely and effective assistance to women experiencing violence.
“Today we present Maya: Women Accompanied and Attended, a tool designed to protect, support, and strengthen us, women,” Lezama said. She emphasized that the app is part of a comprehensive policy focused on prevention, support, and creating opportunities.
Secretary Hernández stated that Mexico’s ongoing transformation is built on achieving substantive equality through concrete actions. She noted that for decades, many forms of violence against women remained invisible, but today they are being named, confronted, and combated with technology serving women’s dignity and autonomy.
Hernández welcomed the connection between Maya, Banavim, and the Single File for Women in Situations of Violence through Quintana Roo’s Women’s Secretariat, which she said will enable more coordinated and effective institutional responses.
Lezama reiterated that Quintana Roo is promoting a humanist government with a feminist heart, where equality is built by listening to, believing, and supporting women. She added that Maya coordinates prevention, support, and opportunity initiatives. “It’s part of a comprehensive policy that strengthens support for women and reaffirms our permanent commitment to their well-being and safety,” she said.
The app is now available for download on Play Store and App Store, as well as through the website maya.qroo.gob.mx. State and federal officials said the launch strengthens the institutional support network so no woman faces violence alone.
“Now more than ever, it’s time for women,” both officials concluded.
