Cancún, Quintana Roo — The state Education Department has launched a visual health program that will provide free eyeglasses to students in public elementary schools in Quintana Roo’s most marginalized urban areas.
The initiative, announced by the Secretariat of Education of Quintana Roo (SEQ), will offer optometric screenings to detect vision problems early, before they interfere with children’s ability to learn. Students who need corrective lenses will receive them at no cost.
Education officials said the program is meant to reach the student population that needs it most, making it easier for children to read, write, and see clearly during classroom activities.
Parents and guardians are asked to watch for an authorization form that will be distributed at schools. The form must be completed before each student can undergo the eye exam.

By covering the cost of glasses, the program is intended to offer direct support to families in high-margin communities and ensure vision problems are identified and addressed early in a child’s school years.
