Cancún, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama declared that the current federal administration has left a historic mark on Quintana Roo, citing progress in social justice, economic growth, and public welfare during a press conference with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Lezama stated that Quintana Roo is undergoing a profound transformation through coordinated work between the federal government, the Mexican Army, and local institutions, leading to significant advances in security and addressing root causes of issues.

On economic matters, she highlighted that the state attracted $1.064 billion in foreign direct investment in 2025, primarily in tourism and infrastructure, along with the opening of 14 new lodging centers adding 5,433 rooms.

The governor also noted that the Mexican Caribbean welcomed over 20 million tourists and 7 million cruise ship passengers, with passenger traffic exceeding 33 million, solidifying the region as one of the country’s main economic engines.

As part of economic diversification efforts, Lezama announced the push for the Cancún Financial and Technological District project, which aims to attract $1.2 billion in investment and create over 30,000 jobs.

Regarding social progress, she reported that according to INEGI (national statistics agency) data, Quintana Roo reduced its poverty rate by 9.3 percentage points between 2022 and 2024, dropping from 27% to 17%, lifting 177,000 people out of poverty.

Lezama also emphasized programs focused on women and indigenous communities, along with the Maya Kaan community tourism project, which involves 76 localities and more than 100,000 residents.

Finally, she acknowledged federal government support for strategic projects including the Maya Train, the Nichupté Vehicular Bridge, new hospitals in Chetumal and Felipe Carrillo Puerto, and the Cancún–Isla Blanca highway, which strengthen regional connectivity and development.
