Cancún, Mexico — Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has deployed 70 new police vehicles equipped with advanced technology to strengthen security operations in Cancún, the state’s premier tourist destination.
The new fleet, delivered during a ceremony at Malecón Tajamar, includes 40 SUVs for special operations, 20 four-wheel-drive pickup trucks for hard-to-reach areas, and 10 all-terrain vehicles to improve police mobility and response times across urban and remote zones.
Each vehicle features six cameras—four external and two internal—with facial recognition systems and license plate readers. They are also equipped with rugged, high-performance laptops providing officers immediate access to official databases.
“We reaffirm our deep commitment to the safety of Cancún families,” Lezama said. “Security is the state’s primary function—the foundation for full exercise of freedoms, economic development, and community life.”
The governor emphasized that the investment responds to Cancún’s growth and its role as a tourist hub, noting the city will be a gateway for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. She praised police officers for their bravery and commitment, stating they now have better tools to perform their duties with dignity.
Lezama also called on citizens to actively participate in building peace, highlighting that reporting crimes is a social responsibility that saves lives and strengthens security.
The event was attended by State Security Secretary Julio César Gómez Torres, state congress representative Jorge Sanén Cervantes, judicial representative Omar Landeros Rosado, 34th Military Zone Commander General Fidel Mondragón Rivero, State Prosecutor’s Office representative Rebeca Ramos Mejía, Benito Juárez Municipal Security Secretary Jaime Padilla Barrientos, and city council security commission representative Susana González.
