Quintana Roo, Mexico — The Secretariat of Education of Quintana Roo has announced the organization of the State Sports, Cultural, and Artistic Games for Education Workers, an unprecedented event in the state aimed at strengthening camaraderie, companionship, and the overall well-being of teaching and educational support staff. The initiative seeks to promote integration, health, and recreation through sports, artistic, and cultural activities that recognize the fundamental work of teachers and educational personnel in school communities.
Education Secretary Elda Xix Euán emphasized that this is the first time an event of this magnitude has been held in Quintana Roo, driven by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa and directed at all teachers in the state. She stated that there is significant interest in participation, as it represents direct recognition of their work and the support they have received during the current state administration.
How the Sports Games Will Develop in Quintana Roo
According to the head of the SEQ, the main objective of these games is to provide spaces that foster healthy lifestyles, capable of preventing and reducing overweight, obesity, and antisocial behaviors, while strengthening coexistence among education workers.
The event will take place in municipal, regional, and state stages. The municipal phase will be held on November 28 and 29 in sports facilities, auditoriums, and theaters of the municipal headquarters. The regional stage will be celebrated on December 1 and is divided into five zones:
- South Zone: Othón P. Blanco and Bacalar, in Chetumal.
- Central Zone: Felipe Carrillo Puerto, José María Morelos, and Tulum, with headquarters in Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
- North Zone A: Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, and Puerto Morelos, with activities in Playa del Carmen.
- North Zone B: Lázaro Cárdenas, Isla Mujeres, and Benito Juárez, with headquarters in Cancún.
How Many Participants Are Expected in the Sports Games of Quintana Roo?
The state stage will take place on December 3, 4, and 5 in various spaces in Chetumal, such as the Nohoch Suku Un Gymnasium, the Palace of Sports, the La Charca and 10 de Abril fields, and the Constituyentes Theater. The official inauguration will occur at the emblematic Flag Esplanade.
Participation of over 14,000 education workers is anticipated, including 12,749 in the municipal stage, 246 in the south regional, 364 in the central regional, 363 in the north A regional, 364 in the north B regional, and 596 in the state stage. The call was published on November 21, and registrations will be open from November 24 to 26.
The games include sports disciplines such as soccer, volleyball, and basketball, as well as cultural and artistic activities in the categories of folklore, painting, singing, and poetry. The event is supported by the Quintana Roo Sports Commission, the Institute of Culture and Arts, the Department of Physical Education, supervisors, municipal liaisons, and administrative staff, who collaborate to ensure an enriching experience for the teaching profession.
