Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo Department of Economic Development (SEDE), in coordination with the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), has delivered 52 trademark registration certificates to entrepreneurs and small businesses across three municipalities.

The certificates were presented to recipients from Benito Juárez, Puerto Morelos, and Playa del Carmen during an event led by SEDE Secretary Paul Carrillo de Cáceres. The initiative is part of Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa’s “New Agreement for Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo,” which aims to formalize businesses and strengthen the state’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Trademark registration provides legal protection for brand names, granting exclusive usage rights in the marketplace and preventing unauthorized use by third parties. This legal certainty helps businesses strengthen their identity and positioning while creating intangible assets with commercial value that can generate growth opportunities through licensing, franchising, or commercialization.

During the ceremony, Secretary Carrillo emphasized that trademark registration represents a key step in business consolidation. “Each registered trademark reflects the effort, creativity, and vision of our entrepreneurs,” he said. “Today they’re not just protecting a name, but building a legacy with value and future.”

The event featured several officials including Mayra Patricia Mendoza Urcelay, IMPI Southeast Division Director for Intellectual Property Protection; María de Lourdes Morales Ayala, rector of UNID Cancún; Alma Reynoso Zambrano, coordinator of the Quintana Roo Investment Promotion Committee; and Josué Bonilla Flores, Economic Development Director for Benito Juárez Municipality. They highlighted the importance of inter-institutional collaboration for the state’s economic development.
