Chetumal — Deputy Jorge Sanén Cervantes, Coordinator of the Morena bloc in the XVIII Legislature, stated that the Economic Package proposed by the Executive Branch does not include new taxes or increases in current fees, with the priority being to protect the economy of Quintana Roo residents.
He emphasized that only modifications to cadastral tables have been proposed, which for many years and due to electoral concerns were not addressed by the State Congress at the time and were left for subsequent legislatures, causing delays in municipal revenue collection.
“There are no new taxes, nor increases in existing taxes; what may occur are updates. For many years, out of fear of electoral backlash, many fees and taxes were not updated, leaving everything for the next administration and the next, because every time there were elections, no one wanted to take the hit, and so gradually this has been recovered through updates, but the most important thing is that priority is given to not affecting the economy of Quintana Roo residents,” he asserted.
Regarding modifications, this refers to proposals presented by municipalities such as Playa del Carmen, Benito Juárez, and Isla Mujeres, which seek to improve their income based on contributions on real estate property.
Concerning the fiscal miscellany, he indicated that the financial project will be reviewed in a detailed and exhaustive manner to ensure that every peso is used for the benefit of the population and that programs focused on vulnerable sectors are addressed with own resources.
“The fiscal package is analyzed thoroughly to determine the programs that will be addressed with the resources obtained from own income, as well as the initiatives that have been presented for the benefit of the Quintana Roo people.”
It emerged that in the coming weeks, each initiative proposed by the 11 municipalities will be similarly analyzed, which must fully justify each increase they are considering and, above all, endorse that there will be transparency in the execution of budgets, as this is one of the main demands made by citizens.
