Puerto Morelos Sport Fishing Tournament with 170K Prizes

Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — The municipality of Puerto Morelos will host its traditional Sport Fishing Tournament this Saturday, May 31, in commemoration of Navy Day. The event, featuring a guaranteed prize pool of 170,000 pesos, will take place in the turquoise waters of the Mexican Caribbean.

Tournament Details and Registration

The competition will begin at 9:00 a.m., with participating vessels departing from and returning to the Puerto Morelos Fishermen’s Pier. The tournament will follow a "catch and release" format, emphasizing conservation.

Puerto Morelos Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz has invited interested participants to register through three methods:

  • In person at the Puerto Morelos Tourism Secretariat offices, located in Plaza Oasis, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Prize Distribution

The top three vessels will receive trophies and cash prizes:

  • First place: 100,000 pesos
  • Second place: 50,000 pesos
  • Third place: 20,000 pesos

Additional trophies will be awarded for the best catches in categories including Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Sailfish, Dorado, Wahoo, Sierra, Barracuda, Bonito, and Tuna.

Family Activities on Shore

While anglers compete at sea, families and visitors can enjoy beachside activities such as swimming, volleyball, greased pole climbing, sack races, tug-of-war, and soccer.

The event follows Isla Mujeres’ recent XX International Sport Fishing Tournament, continuing Quintana Roo’s tradition of celebrating marine culture.
