PUERTO MORELOS, Quintana Roo — Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz presided over the ceremonial raising of the Blue Flag at Sol Beach and Ventana al Mar, marking the sixth consecutive year the destination has earned the international certification.

The ceremony, held at Sol Beach, underscored the municipality's commitment to high environmental and quality standards. In her address, Mayor Tziu Muñoz stated that the achievement demonstrates the town's determination to consolidate its position as a favorite destination for national and international tourists.

"Today we demonstrate our determination to continue consolidating ourselves as one of the favorite destinations for national and foreign tourists, especially because of the quality of services we offer and being the offer of sites that, like this one, meet the highest demands and standards," affirmed the mayor.

The Blue Flag certification, awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), requires compliance with 33 strict criteria across the categories of Water Quality, Environmental Management, Safety and Services, Social Responsibility, and Sustainable Tourism. Puerto Morelos has maintained this certification since 2019.

Mayor Tziu Muñoz emphasized that the beaches of Puerto Morelos are now ranked among the best in the world, a status achieved through the work and commitment of all those involved in the Blue Flag mission. She credited them with becoming agents of change in favor of the destination by caring for the coasts and oceans and strengthening environmental culture and education.

Diego Díaz Hernández, Operations and Finance Manager of FEE Mexico, extended his recognition to Puerto Morelos for the sixth consecutive year of raising the Blue Flag. He noted that the town is making history through its work and continuous improvement in services, which promotes awareness, responsibility, and preservation actions for the environment. He expressed hope that more beaches in the area would become certified.

Aimee Regina Rodríguez Vivas, Secretary of Environment, Animal Welfare, and Sustainable Mobility, welcomed attendees and thanked Mayor Tziu Muñoz for her support and push for concrete actions to preserve the natural environment through certifications like the Blue Flag. She described the flag as a symbol of commitment to environmental quality, sustainability, and the conservation of beaches and marine ecosystems.

Gerardo Rosas García, Director General of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat), highlighted the daily work of what he called the "small great army" of collaborators responsible for keeping the sands clean and verifying the proper functioning of services offered to tourists enjoying the beaches. He stated these workers are the destination's best promoters.

Following the flag-raising, Mayor Tziu Muñoz concluded by reiterating her commitment to continue promoting the quality of tourist services, which increases revenue generation while consolidating investment in environmentally responsible sustainable development.
