Puerto Morelos Promotes Tourism Without Neglecting Sanitary Measures

PUERTO MORELOS – In Puerto Morelos, a collaborative effort between the government, private initiative and citizens, has seen sanitary measures strengthened to provide health security to visitors and workers of the tourism industry during this current holiday season, said Héctor Tamayo Sánchez, Municipal Secretary for Economic Development and Tourism.

The official indicated that it is essential to strictly comply with the established protocols, such as the mandatory use of face masks, antibacterial gel, maintaining a healthy distance and respecting capacity limits in establishments, to avoid coronavirus outbreaks in the municipality.

In the first week of the summer holidays, the average hotel occupancy was 57.3 percent according to the Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres Hotel Association. Some days were even one or two percentage points higher and there are good expectations for the destination for the next few weeks.

“We see a great movement of visitors arriving to the destinations of Quintana Roo, including Puerto Morelos,” he said.

Tamayo Sánchez said that the destination has a wide diversity of attractions that are promoted through specialized digital platforms, together with the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council.

“We are the main adventure destination in Mexico, thanks to the attractions offered on the Ruta de los Cenotes and the Mesoamerican reef,” he explained.

Finally, he said that they will remain attentive to the guidelines that are in place, according to the epidemiological traffic light, which dictates the maximum occupancy and the capacity allowed in the tourist and gastronomic activities that take place in Puerto Morelos and the rest of the Mexican Caribbean destinations.
