Puerto Morelos, Mexico — The municipality of Puerto Morelos is ready to celebrate next Tuesday, January 6, the 10th anniversary of its creation, with civic and artistic events that will demonstrate the pride of all those who work daily to make this a better place to live, said Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz.
In that sense, she said that at 10 am, a Solemn Council Session will be held at the Parque Fundadores del Casco Antiguo to commemorate the anniversary, which is expected to be attended by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa and representatives of the Legislative and Judicial branches, among other personalities. Additionally, recognitions will be given to distinguished Puerto Morelos residents.
After recalling that, on the occasion of the anniversary, the Council approved, in its XXI Extraordinary Session held on December 18, the agreement declaring the Parque del Casco Antiguo as the temporary official venue for its IV Solemn Session, she said that for the municipality’s inhabitants it is important to always keep in mind the circumstances under which the eleventh municipality of Quintana Roo was created.
In the evening, starting at 10 pm, at the Parque de Béisbol “Pescadores,” an artistic program with a luxury lineup will take place, she emphasized. “All Puerto Morelos residents are invited to have fun and celebrate our wonderful history in a healthy environment.”
The program includes the presentation of Carlos Montalvo, a prominent vocalist known for being a key figure in the rise of Los Ángeles Azules and known as “El ángel de la cumbia.” In his solo career, he has popularized his own songs such as “Y me enamoré,” in addition to performing cumbia classics.
The Venezuelan group “Jemanuel y los Panas” will also perform, a project led by the singer of the same name, who has positioned himself as a reference for salsa fused with modern rhythms, with a sound that invites dancing. His repertoire includes his own songs and hits from other genres.
The Grupo Niche, from Colombia, popular for being one of the most awarded and largest salsa orchestras in the world, will close the night. Their albums, which have received Grammy and Latin Grammy awards, have sold millions, particularly “Llegando al 100%” and “A prueba de fuego,” which achieved double platinum certification. Among their best-known hits are “Buenaventura y caney,” “Solo un cariño,” “Nuestro sueño,” “Las mujeres están de moda” and “Cali pachanguero.”
It should be noted that, although the XIV Legislature of the State Congress formally declared the creation of the municipality on November 6, 2015, it was not until January 6, 2016 that the corresponding decree came into effect. On that date, a legitimate aspiration of the inhabitants of Puerto Morelos was realized, who until then were part of the municipality of Benito Juárez.
