Puerto Morelos Carnival 2026 Kicks Off With Music and Crowds

Puerto Morelos, Mexico — More than six thousand people danced, sang, and celebrated at the opening night of the Puerto Morelos Carnival 2026, themed “To the Rhythm of History and Tradition,” marking the municipality’s 10th anniversary.

Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz said the carnival launched with a quality artistic program featuring events for children, youth, and adults. She described it as unprecedented, with a standout lineup and security as a priority. Police, traffic officers, civil protection, firefighters, and the Mexican Navy coordinated throughout the event.

The mayor thanked the thousands who gathered at the “Nicolás Zurdo Estrella” baseball field in the Pescadores neighborhood for the coronation night. The Institute of Culture and the Arts organized the event, hosted by “Los Compadres,” Alex Yañez and Chucho Robles. The international group Los Ángeles Azules headlined the performance.

Coronation of Kings and Queens

The program began with a presentation of kings and queens from the carnivals of 1979 to 2024. The mayor presented awards and thanked them for their contribution to the tradition.

She then crowned the new sovereigns:

  • Child kings: Stephany Sofía and Juan Dariel
  • Heart of gold: Ana Paulette and Omar Teodoro
  • Elder emperors: Martha Emma and José Guadalupe
  • Youth queen: Karemi Ziovanna
  • King of diversity: Uriel
  • Official sovereigns: Indira and Víctor

Local dance studio FSM Somos Company performed, followed by parades from the child, youth, diversity, and official sovereigns’ groups, featuring cumbia, mambo, salsa, and bachata. The stage shone with multicolored costumes, feathers, and sequins.

The night continued with Wendy Guevara and Las Perdidas, Grupo Marea, and Los Ángeles Azules, who performed hits like “Cumbia del Corazón” and “El listón de tu pelo,” energizing the crowd.

Security and Fun at Puerto Morelos Carnival

The security operation involved 98 personnel: 30 police officers, 16 traffic agents, 28 navy members, 14 civil protection staff, and 10 firefighters. They monitored access and the grounds, where 70 food and drink stalls were set up.

A fair with mechanical rides was also installed, specifically designed for children and youth entertainment.

The mayor invited the public to enjoy the carnival’s second night, featuring a parade competition and performances by La Arrolladora Banda El Limón, La Poderosa, and comedian La Puruxona.
