Puerto Aventuras, Mexico — Due to the high incidence of traffic accidents near the U-turn zone in front of the Hard Rock Riviera Maya hotel, Puerto Aventuras Mayor Gilberto Gómez Martínez has proposed the construction of an overpass or vehicular bridge to improve safety.

Rising Accident Rates Prompt Infrastructure Proposal

During a recent meeting with members of the Technical Mobility Commission of the State Government, Mayor Gómez highlighted the critical situation along Federal Highway 307, where daily traffic congestion and inadequate infrastructure contribute to frequent accidents. The area serves as a key access point to the town of Puerto Aventuras and the Puerto Maya subdivision.

In an interview, Gómez Martínez explained that vehicles traveling south to north often fail to brake in time after descending the existing vehicular bridge, leading to collisions at the congested U-turn. The problem is exacerbated by mototaxis, which frequently use the same U-turn to return after dropping off passengers near the marina entrance, further increasing accident risks.

The mayor described the recent meeting with state and municipal authorities as productive, noting their willingness to address the mobility issues affecting both residents and visitors.
