Tulum, Quintana Roo — A public roadway occupied irregularly was recovered today in the municipality, as a result of a procedure derived from a citizen complaint and a judicial order that determined the restitution of the space to municipal property. The intervention was carried out with the participation of municipal authorities, in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Quintana Roo.
The action took place in an area where neighbors reported the invasion of a street, allegedly used for the construction of homes without authorization, which generated impacts on urban viability, free transit, and security. During the procedure, personnel from the Tulum City Council attended as institutional accompaniment, while the Attorney General’s Office continues with the corresponding legal actions.
The general secretary of the City Council, Johnny Monsreal, explained that the procedure originates from a neighborhood complaint and that there is a judicial mandate for the recovery of the property, as it is a municipal public roadway. He clarified that it is not a conflict over private property, but rather a matter of urban order and security.
He detailed that, as the process advances, the Attorney General’s Office will be in charge of concluding the procedure and subsequently formally delivering the recovered area to the City Council. He indicated that, preliminarily, a considerable stretch of the invaded space has already been recovered, and that subsequent actions will be defined according to what the judicial authority establishes.
Affected neighbors pointed out that the irregular occupation occurred progressively, starting with provisional materials and advancing toward more solid structures, such as beams and columns, which—they assert—evidenced the intention to remain on the site. They added that the invasion impeded free access, deteriorated the urban image, and generated an environment of insecurity.
One of the complainants, Alejandro Patiño, stated that the situation led to robberies of homes, acts of intimidation, and the departure of tenants, causing economic losses for property owners in the area. He indicated that, in addition to the direct impacts, the problem affected the perception of security and the value of properties.
The authorities reiterated that this type of action responds to citizen complaints and judicial resolutions, with the objective of recovering public spaces, reestablishing urban viability, and guaranteeing security conditions for the inhabitants of the municipality.
