Construction on the Progreso Viaduct, an elevated roadway being built over 82nd Street in the heart of the port, is set to conclude in December. This is a six-month delay from the original projection. The exact date for the viaduct to become operational remains undetermined, but it could be as early as January. This information comes from the staff at Ingenieros Civiles Asociados (ICA) Infraestructura, the company managing this multi-million dollar mega project.

Upon completion, the Progreso Viaduct will span 2.7 kilometers. The cost of the project will not be entirely covered until March 2025. After the viaduct's construction finishes in December, work will continue on 82nd Street. This will include paving, lighting, landscaping, a bicycle path, and other additional projects.

Construction on the viaduct began on June 13, 2023. The original plan was to complete the project by June 30, 2024, with the inauguration coinciding with the city's anniversary on July 1. However, engineers from ICA Infraestructura have confirmed that the project was delayed due to modifications to the original plan and an extension of the viaduct from the initially projected 2.2 kilometers to 2.7 kilometers.

Once finished, the viaduct will stretch from the alternate viaduct of the high port to the junction with the Mérida-Progreso highway, passing over central 82nd Street. More details about the viaduct will be released as the project nears completion.
