Progreso, Yucatán — The port of Progreso experienced a surge of activity this Tuesday with the presence of the ARM "Cuauhtémoc" Sail Training Ship and the simultaneous arrival of two Carnival cruise ships, transforming the area's usual landscape into a vibrant scene of movement, culture, and joy. Thousands of people filled the streets, beaches, and local attractions, creating a dynamic day for Yucatán's most important coastal destination.

A Dual Arrival by Sea

The morning began at 6:45 a.m. with the arrival of the Carnival Liberty from New Orleans, Louisiana, carrying 3,015 passengers and 1,140 crew members. Its itinerary continues to Grand Cayman. Shortly after, at 8:50 a.m., the Carnival Breeze docked, arriving from Cozumel with 3,869 visitors and 1,383 crew members aboard, destined for Galveston, Texas.

The presence of both cruise ships filled the beaches, restaurants, and businesses along the boardwalk, where tourists enjoyed local cuisine, guided tours, and outdoor activities, contributing to the economic dynamism of the community.

Visitors Enjoy the Arrival of the "Cuauhtémoc"

Simultaneously, hundreds of people—including students, families, and visitors from various municipalities—gathered at the fiscal pier to see the "Cuauhtémoc," the iconic Mexican Navy vessel that has been docked since Sunday and officially opened its doors to the public.

A Maritime Experience for the Whole Family

From early in the day, the flow of people to the Progreso Casa de la Cultura was constant. From there, organized groups boarded free buses to the Remote Terminal's Ferry Pier, where the imposing ship, also known as "the gentleman of the seas," was waiting. Children waving small flags, curious young people, and older adults nostalgic for maritime traditions gave the atmosphere a festive touch.

The fresh wind and light gusts caused by Cold Front No. 13 did not diminish the spirits of the attendees, who waited patiently to board and admire the majesty of the training ship up close.

Pride and Tradition on Every Deck

Cadets from the Secretariat of the Navy received visitors with courtesy and pride, guiding them across the decks, demonstrating maneuvers, and recounting part of the ship's history, a symbol of discipline, honor, and service. Many took the opportunity to take photographs with the crew and with the national flag waving in the wind, in an image that combined patriotism and tradition.

The "Cuauhtémoc" (BE-01) arrived in Yucatán with 166 crew members from the port of Cozumel and will remain in Progreso until Friday the 14th, with the purpose of sharing with the people of Yucatán the sailor spirit and the values of discipline, honor, and service that distinguish the Mexican Navy.

The Secretariat of the Navy announced that access to the "Cuauhtémoc" will be available from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday, while on Thursday the hours will be reduced, ending at 5:00 p.m.

Progreso, a Port of Tradition and Modernity

With this day's events, Progreso once again solidified its position as one of the country's main tourist and port destinations, where modernity and the sailor spirit intertwine to offer unique experiences to both locals and visitors.
