Mérida, Yucatán — The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) has expanded the criminal complaint filed against the National Egg Producer (CRÍO) for violating closure seals placed last November on a property located in Kinchil, Yucatán, where activities attributed to the company are being developed.
In response to community complaints, Profepa conducted several follow-up and verification visits during which it documented violations of its security measures, as well as of machinery, imposed due to the impact on approximately 13.7 hectares of forest vegetation.
Based on these findings, Profepa announced it will meet with the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic (FGR) to follow up on this case to ensure compliance with the law.
In a statement, Profepa recalled that on January 9, its personnel conducted a verification visit to the site, where they confirmed that the total temporary closure imposed since November 12, 2025 had not been respected and that land preparation work continued using heavy machinery.
The closure was ordered due to the change of land use on forested land and the total removal of natural forest vegetation on an approximate area of 13.7 hectares, without the corresponding authorization.
As a result, the precautionary seizure of a backhoe and a crawler bulldozer was carried out. These machines were used for chopping and leveling the natural soil, with the aim of constructing roads and future industrial buildings for poultry production and breeding.
The machinery belongs to a leasing company and was operated by personnel from a construction company contracted by the property owner.
Subsequently, on January 12, during another verification visit, Profepa went to the site to verify that the seized machinery remained in place and that the closure seals remained intact.
During this procedure, personnel from the construction company present at the site refused to receive and sign the verification order. Regarding the machinery, only the bulldozer was located, without the “secured asset” seals and in a different location from the original one; the backhoe was no longer at the site. This constitutes a serious and repeated failure to comply with the security measures imposed by this environmental authority.
Profepa reinstalled the seizure seals on the located machinery.
Due to the repeated non-compliance with the closure, as well as the improper handling of the seized assets, Profepa filed on January 13 the expansion of the criminal complaint previously submitted to the FGR.
