Mexico City — The National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) announced this Tuesday the temporary closure of ports along the coasts of Yucatán and Quintana Roo due to a forecast of intense rains and strong winds in the region.

The restrictions, implemented by the Secretariat of the Navy, apply to smaller vessels in the ports of Progreso, Yukalpetén, Chuburná, Celestún, Sisal, Telchac, San Felipe, Río Lagartos, Las Coloradas, El Cuyo, and Dzilam de Bravo in Yucatán. The closures also affect the Quintana Roo ports of Puerto Juárez, Cozumel, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Isla Mujeres, Mahahual, Chetumal, and Xcalak.

The National Water Commission (Conagua) issued a notice for a "norte" weather event that will affect Quintana Roo, Campeche, and Yucatán, with wind gusts of 40 to 60 km/h and wave heights of two to three meters. The commission also forecast isolated rains in several municipalities of Yucatán and Quintana Roo.

Authorities warned that the strong winds could lead to the falling of trees and advertising billboards. They recommended the public exercise extreme caution and avoid activities in coastal zones for the duration of the adverse conditions.
