Chetumal, Mexico — With the arrival of rented buses, the distribution of cochinita pibil sandwiches, and the backing of cabinet officials, ejido commissioners from the Río Hondo riverbank and border zone, as well as leaders from the SUCHAA and FTSGE unions, the signing of a collaboration agreement between Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón and Othón P. Blanco Mayor Yensunni Martínez Hernández took place this Saturday.

Event Draws Crowds and High-Profile Attendees

The event, which gathered citizens starting at 8 a.m., featured the presence of Government Secretary Cristina Torres, one of the most applauded figures. Also in attendance were Women’s Secretary Esther Burgos, alongside business representatives and sugarcane industry leaders.

In her speech, Martínez Hernández, as host, emphasized Governor Mara Lezama’s vision to build “this new agreement where everyone counts, is important, and is heard.” Referring to alliances Castañón had already established with the mayors of Bacalar and José María Morelos, she recounted:

—“I picked up the phone—and you won’t let me lie—and told him: ‘Hey Diego, my municipality also wants to be part of that alliance, so you’d consider me.’”

According to her account, Castañón responded: “These are the alliances we are forming,” thus solidifying the collaboration. The Othón P. Blanco mayor thanked the Tulum mayor for including her municipality and urged attendees to give him a chance: “He is someone who listens, a great human being, already a friend, and we should get closer to know him.”

State Officials Highlight Unity Efforts

Cristina Torres underscored Governor Lezama’s efforts to advance in unity and strengthen development in the southern and central regions of the state.

—“How beautiful it is to see a single Quintana Roo, and to have you all here in the south, because it is part of the dream of the highest-rated governor in the country,” she said.

For his part, Diego Castañón confirmed that the alliances established with the municipalities of Bacalar, José María Morelos, Othón P. Blanco, and Felipe Carrillo Puerto have the direct support of the state’s executive leader.

The event marked a significant step in regional political coordination, with officials and community leaders rallying behind a shared vision for southern Quintana Roo’s future.
