Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — Police arrested a man with a firearm and suspected drugs during a multi-agency operation in the Salina Chica neighborhood on Monday afternoon.
Authorities launched the operation after receiving a complaint against the individual. Police found the firearm during the arrest.
The incident occurred in a residential area of Salina Chica. The last major violent event on the island happened last summer, leaving two people dead and several detained.
Local resident Luis recalled that this arrest comes ten years after the first execution-style killing near the Cendi daycare in the La Gloria neighborhood, where a taxi driver was shot inside his vehicle. That incident marked the beginning of a series of killings on the island, a previously unseen phenomenon.
