Cancún, Quintana Roo — A motorcyclist was injured Monday afternoon after allegedly running a red light and colliding with a car at a busy Cancún intersection.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Tecnológico Avenue and Petempich Avenue, where witnesses reported seeing the violent collision and immediately called emergency services.
According to authorities investigating the scene, the motorcyclist was traveling north to south on Tecnológico Avenue when he allegedly ran a red light. At that moment, a Nissan Versa driven by a woman who had the right of way while traveling east to west on Petempich Avenue struck the motorcycle head-on, throwing the rider several meters.
The motorcyclist sustained multiple injuries in the crash. Red Cross paramedics provided first aid at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital for further evaluation to rule out more serious injuries.
The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Municipal traffic officers arrived to conduct their investigation and determine responsibility.
As part of standard protocols, the woman was detained temporarily while authorities completed their investigation and determined the legal status of those involved.
The incident caused temporary traffic disruptions in the area, with traffic officers redirecting vehicles while they completed their work and removed the vehicles from the scene.
