PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MX. – In observance of International Migrants Day, the World Flavors Festival will be held this Thursday at Fundadores Park in Playa del Carmen, an event aimed at celebrating the cultural diversity that characterizes the municipality.
The head of the Migrant Care Unit, Claudia Mendoza, reported that the festival will be a gastronomic and cultural showcase featuring representatives from approximately 15 countries, who will share part of their traditions and flavors with the community.
Mendoza highlighted that Playa del Carmen is a pluricultural destination, with residents from over 100 countries, and took the opportunity to underscore the work carried out by the agency during 2025, particularly in assisting people in situations of mobility.
During the current year, the Migrant Care Unit provided support to more than 1,300 people, primarily originating from Venezuela, Honduras, Guatemala, Cuba, Colombia, and Argentina, with an emphasis on orientation and regularization of their migratory status.
Likewise, she indicated that 105 people requested the temporary shelter in Puerto Aventuras to stay overnight while seeking employment, with the majority being Venezuelans, Salvadorans, Hondurans, and Colombians.
The official added that assistance was also provided to families with minors, who, due to the protection of their human rights, cannot remain in migration stations, and were therefore referred to temporary shelter spaces.
