Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The municipal government has launched a training program for more than 300 citizen watchdogs, focusing on violence prevention, gender equality, and the protection of children and adolescents.
The initiative, led by Mayor Estefanía Mercado, is being carried out by the Secretariat of Social Justice and Citizen Participation, headed by Rusbel Briegel Pat Cauich, and the Gender Equality Unit, led by Marbella Hernández Pérez.
Throughout July and August, participants will attend 90-minute sessions covering topics such as New Masculinities and Femininities, Inclusive Non-Sexist Language, and Prevention of Human Trafficking. The goal is to strengthen participants’ abilities to promote human rights, equality, and non-discrimination.
Rusbel Pat Cauich highlighted that the training enhances the skills of citizen watchdogs, who play a key role in preventing behaviors that violate the rights of children and adolescents, contributing to safer and more inclusive environments.
Participants received a certificate recognizing their commitment to fostering a culture of peace, equality, and respect for human rights.
