Sheep Farming Boost in Playa del Carmen with Kilo a Kilo

Sheep farming in Playa del Carmen under the Kilo a Kilo program

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Under the leadership of Municipal President Estefanía Mercado, the Playa del Carmen government is advancing in consolidating an inclusive development model, where the prosperity generated by tourism is also reflected in strengthening the countryside and improving living conditions for producer families in the municipality.

As part of this vision, the Directorate of Agricultural and Fisheries Development, headed by Alejandro López and attached to the Secretariat of Economic Development and Investment Attraction, conducted in coordination with the Local Livestock Association of Playa del Carmen a technical visit to the sheep production unit of Rancho Tigre Grande, where the “Kilo a Kilo” Program will be implemented in the near future.

This scheme consists, according to Alejandro López, of the exchange of male sheep studs for females of reproductive age of the same weight, a strategy that he said will allow increasing the municipal sheep livestock herd, strengthening livestock productivity, and consolidating a solid commercial demand, generating direct benefits for local livestock farmers.

The official emphasized that this program responds to the instruction of Municipal President Estefanía Mercado to promote the agricultural sector as a pillar of local economic development, betting on productive diversification and sustainable use of resources.

With actions like this, the municipal government reaffirms its commitment to building a more balanced and fair economy, where the growth of Playa del Carmen is not only measured in tourism indicators, but in real opportunities for the countryside and in shared prosperity for all residents of Playa.
