Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Authorities in Playa del Carmen have intensified security measures along the border with Puerto Morelos after a police officer was injured in a recent attack. The Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC) has deployed additional personnel to Filtro 1, a key checkpoint on the route toward Cancún, alongside strategic patrols and aerial surveillance using the Albatros helicopter as a preventive measure.

Heightened Patrols and Aerial Surveillance

The SSC confirmed that surveillance efforts have been reinforced in coordination with neighboring municipalities. Operations include inspections of public transportation and the deployment of K-9 units to detect illicit substances or contraband. These measures aim to ensure the safety of travelers along this high-traffic corridor.

Regional Coordination After Puerto Morelos Incident

The SSC released images on social media showing officers conducting vehicle inspections and the Albatros helicopter conducting overflights. A specialized detection dog was also seen assisting in the operation. No arrests or operational results have been disclosed at this time.

The security surge follows an incident near the municipal border, though further details about the attack on the officer remain undisclosed. Authorities have urged the public to report suspicious activity to bolster security efforts.
