Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Local authorities and organizers announced the “The Paradise Fit Fest-Sunset Edition 2026,” a three-day sports event aimed at boosting sports tourism and promoting healthy lifestyles, scheduled for April 17-19 at the Riviera Maya Sports Complex.
During the official presentation, Tourism Secretary Fabiana Briseño Suárez said the event aims to become a platform that not only engages the local population but also attracts visitors, generating economic benefits and positioning Playa del Carmen as a hub for sports activities.
She emphasized that sports tourism is a major global trend, and this event is part of Mayor Estefanía Mercado’s strategy to diversify the destination’s offerings and strengthen its image as a dynamic, healthy, and active place.
Alberto López Castro, director of the Municipal Sports Institute, highlighted that such initiatives are key to fostering local talent and creating spaces that encourage physical activity, while also contributing to social prevention through sports, especially among children and youth.
Sergio Ramos de León, general director of “The Paradise Fit Fest-Sunset,” explained that athletes will compete in various categories including beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, as well as master and elite categories, for both men and women.
The event will also feature complementary activities such as mass classes, exhibitions, and a hybrid race on Sunday.
He added that the event will use an innovative format integrating competitions in the afternoon and evening, accompanied by lighting and music, offering a comprehensive experience for both participants and spectators.
Organizers expect around 600 athletes and a significant number of attendees, which they say will help solidify Playa del Carmen as a key location for national and international sports events.
Organizers also noted the support of the municipal government, led by Mayor Estefanía Mercado, as well as inter-agency coordination to ensure logistics, security, and the smooth execution of the event.
