Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Health authorities in Playa del Carmen have issued an alert due to the imminent risk of a measles outbreak in the region, according to José Uribe, head of the municipal Health Secretariat. The warning comes as the national outbreak has reached 1,649 confirmed cases.
Current Situation and Confirmed Cases
In a brief interview, Uribe stated that only one measles case has been confirmed in the state so far, which was reported days ago in the Bacalar community. Despite this, officials are taking preventive measures to curb further spread.
Prevention Efforts Underway
The municipal health department has intensified public awareness campaigns, urging residents to follow preventive measures. Health brigades are prioritizing outreach in vulnerable communities, where incomplete vaccination schedules heighten the risk of transmission.
Uribe noted that vaccination campaigns in recent years have seen strong public participation, which he hopes will minimize measles cases in the municipality.
"The most critical measure is prevention through vaccination," Uribe said. "We continue promoting awareness. Fortunately, no cases have emerged in the municipality yet. The public response has been effective, and we are working in that direction."

Health officials remain vigilant as they monitor the situation, emphasizing the importance of vaccination to prevent a potential surge in infections.
