Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Fernando Muñoz Calero, a city councilor and coordinator for the Green Party, has asserted that animal abuse will not be permitted in the municipality and that actions will be strengthened to guarantee the protection of pets and domestic species.

From the Commission of Ecology, Environment, and Animal Protection, which he chairs, the official emphasized that these measures are part of the strategy of Municipal President Estefanía Mercado, who is promoting the "Transformation with Future" initiative to consolidate a more just and humane municipality.

"In Playa del Carmen, respect and care for animals are fundamental principles. We will not allow any animal to be a victim of violence, and those who do not respect the law will face sanctions," stated Muñoz.

Institutional Coordination and Citizen Campaigns

The councilor specified that the City Council is working hand-in-hand with the State Attorney General's Office (FGE), the Municipal Citizen Security Secretariat, and the Secretariat of Sustainable Environment and Climate Change to guarantee the application of the law and the care of animals.

Furthermore, he highlighted that close collaboration is maintained with civil associations to reinforce awareness campaigns, promote a culture of reporting, and prevent cases of animal abuse from going unpunished.

A Vision of Integral Well-being

Fernando Muñoz emphasized that the actions being promoted are not only aimed at protecting animals but also at building a more empathetic and responsible society.

"We are building a more just and humane municipality, where we not only look out for the well-being of people, but also for that of the living beings that coexist with us. That is the vision of this administration and we will continue to defend it with actions," he concluded.

With this position, the Playa del Carmen city council reinforces its environmental and animal welfare agenda, aligning with the principles of inclusion, justice, and respect promoted by the current municipal government.
