Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The Government of Playa del Carmen has activated Operation Storm through the Municipal Secretariats of Civil Protection, Risk Prevention, and Firefighters and of Municipal Public Services. The operation's purpose is to protect the population and promptly address damages resulting from the rains recorded since yesterday.

Through this operation, preventive actions and immediate responses have been carried out in the neighborhoods and subdivisions of the municipality. These include cleaning sewer grates and dredging at various points where water accumulation, puddles, and flooding have been recorded.

The rains occurring in the municipality are the product of a low-pressure zone located over the southeast of the Gulf of Mexico. This system is interacting with an influx of moisture from the same area, generating favorable conditions for intermittent rains in the region.

The Secretary of Civil Protection, Risk Prevention, and Firefighters, Darwin Covarrubias, highlighted that permanent work is being done to keep grates, wells, and storm drains clean.

"Under the instruction of our Mayor, Estefanía Mercado, we are keeping Operation Storm active in a preventive and permanent manner. Our objective is to immediately address citizen reports and reduce risks during this rainy and cyclone season," he stated.

The Government of Playa del Carmen reiterates its commitment to the safety of the citizenry and invites the population to refrain from throwing trash in the streets, to keep the grates near their homes clean, and to report any incidents to the emergency number 911.
