Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Playa del Carmen municipal government, led by Mayor Estefanía Mercado, has taken command of the Blindaje security operation on Quinta Avenida through the Municipal Police.
Carlos Alberto Montesinos García, the city’s Public Security secretary, said the Municipal Police will now direct day-to-day operations and coordinate security efforts along the heavily visited tourist corridor.
Montesinos attended the handover ceremony on behalf of the mayor alongside Quintana Roo Public Security Secretary Rear Admiral Julio César Gómez Torres. The meeting formalized the transfer of operational command and continued coordination among the participating agencies.
Deputy Secretary Jorge Alexis Zuart Córdova, representing Montesinos, toured the tourist zone to inspect the strategic security and surveillance work carried out by authorities at all three levels of government.
The operation involves personnel from the Mexican Army, the National Guard, the Mexican Navy, the Quintana Roo Public Security Department and the Playa del Carmen Municipal Police.
Montesinos said taking the lead on the operation will strengthen coordination from the municipal level and keep a steady security presence in the tourist corridor.
