Puerto Aventuras, Mexico — In a closed-door session on Wednesday morning, the Technical Committee for Mobility and Road Safety of Playa del Carmen convened, with the primary topic of discussion being the possibility of constructing an overpass in Puerto Aventuras at the location of the U-turn near the Hard Rock Riviera Maya hotel.
Mayor Gilberto Gómez Martínez explained that the proposal arises in response to the high number of accidents recorded at that specific point. “They have already seen it there… in that place,” he stated during his intervention, while insisting on the necessity of addressing the problem.
The mayor detailed that the members of the Committee concurred that, because the site is located on a stretch of road under the jurisdiction of the federal Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT), the project would have to be executed by the federal government.
As a provisional measure, it was proposed to analyze the installation of speed reduction measures to warn drivers about the U-turn, as the speed conditions of the roadway make it impossible to install speed bumps or buoys.
Gómez Martínez acknowledged that it will not be easy for the SICT to develop the project in the short term but expressed confidence that the federal agency will consider the proposal and may allocate resources for it in the future.
