Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Under the instruction of Municipal President Estefanía Mercado, the Playa del Carmen Government, through the Secretariat of Citizen Security, maintains a permanent surveillance and security operation in beach areas, the coastal strip, main tourist corridors, and throughout the municipality. This operation is reinforced during the Guadalupe-Reyes holiday period with the objective of strengthening security, preventing crimes, and reducing response times for the benefit of residents and visitors.
This operation is developed in a coordinated manner among the three levels of government, with participation from the Mexican Army, the Secretariat of the Navy, the National Guard, the State Police, and the Secretariat of Civil Protection, Risk Prevention and Firefighters, in addition to other municipal agencies. This coordination allows for comprehensive attention and timely response to any situation.
In the case of the Secretariat of Citizen Security, there are over one thousand elements deployed permanently throughout the municipality who carry out surveillance, prevention, and social proximity tasks. As part of this force, the Tourist Police, responsible for direct attention in beaches and high-traffic areas, has 11 Ford Explorer Interceptor Police units, 3 Super Duty RAM 2500 units, 4 KTM motorcycles, and Razer-type units, which form part of the permanent operational deployment in the federal maritime zone, beaches, and tourist corridors as a component of the total police force.
In the tourist zone, operational presence is concentrated in the federal maritime zone, beaches, Fifth Avenue, main access points, and high-traffic areas with constant patrols and immediate attention to reports. Additionally, permanent institutional coordination is maintained with hotels, tourist complexes, restaurants, and beach clubs, as well as with their security managers, facilitating direct communication and timely attention.
Furthermore, specific operations are implemented at the fiscal pier in coordination with the Secretariat of the Navy, along with joint actions with Civil Protection and lifeguards, strengthening security in the coastal zone. Coordination is also maintained with federal and state authorities on Fifth Avenue and other strategic points in the municipality.
Additionally, preventive and deterrent patrols are conducted, along with operations in businesses, shopping malls, banks, restaurants, convenience stores, and strategic roadways, expanding territorial coverage and permanently strengthening security actions.
With these actions, the Playa del Carmen Government, through the Secretariat of Citizen Security, reaffirms its commitment to maintain permanent, coordinated, and close surveillance, strengthening security in beaches, tourist zones, and throughout the municipality through the joint work of the three levels of government for the benefit of Playa del Carmen families and those who visit this destination.
