Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Municipal President Estefanía Mercado announced the historic opening of the offices of the Directorate of Housing and Regularization, a space intended to provide legal certainty and dignified housing for families living in irregular zones of Playa del Carmen.
The Mayor highlighted that this action will initiate a historic process of housing regularization in neighborhoods such as El Sauce, In House, Las Torres, and San Judas Tadeo, directly benefiting local families.
During a visit to the service module located in the new City Hall, she reported that the proposal for the formal creation of the Directorate of Housing and Regularization has already been presented to the City Council and is under analysis in commissions, with the objective of preventing land invasions, avoiding fraud, and guaranteeing the legality of property.
"This module allows us to begin receiving documents now to compile files for candidates for regularization. Furthermore, we will implement brigades in neighborhoods to gather birth certificates and other essential documents that will allow us to formalize property," explained Estefanía Mercado.
During her tour, she greeted families interested in gaining certainty about their assets and reiterated that the commitment of her administration is to regularize what is possible, protect the environment, and avoid legal conflicts due to irregular occupations.
The Municipal President stated that evictions will not be promoted, but the occupation of new lots will also not be permitted.
"The agreement with our people is clear: I will help you get regularized, but help me ensure there are no more invasions," she emphasized.
New Housing Program for Young Families
In addition to regularization, the City Council will provide guidance to young families to access new housing through a program managed in coordination with the Infonavit, the State Government, and the Federal Government.
The homes will have an approximate value of 600 thousand pesos, will be equipped and well-located, and will be built in three zones currently in the process of authorization.
Both the State and the municipality will absorb the administrative costs, guaranteeing quality housing at accessible prices.
"This program is ideal for young people starting their working lives, because it will allow them to access their first home safely and legally," highlighted President Mercado.
With this strategy, the Municipal Government of Playa del Carmen reaffirms its commitment to social justice, legal certainty, and sustainable urban development, paving the way for a new stage of well-being and asset security for local families.
