Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo – August 29 2025 — With the new school year just days away, the Municipal Health Secretariat of Playa del Carmen is closely monitoring for possible measles cases, though no alerts have been reported so far in Quintana Roo, confirmed Municipal Health Secretary José Uribe Trujillo.
Uribe noted that while some states in Mexico have launched emergency vaccination campaigns, Playa del Carmen maintains a permanent immunization program to ensure children and families receive the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine.
“All local health units have the vaccine available, except for the Colosio clinic, which is under renovation,” he said. “Vaccination is ongoing and follows the recommended schedule for children, but adolescents and adults can also be evaluated if there’s any uncertainty about completing their doses.”
The secretary stressed the importance of parents watching for classic measles symptoms such as fever, general malaise, and skin rashes, and urged families to avoid self-medication. “Anyone with symptoms should seek immediate care at a primary health center,” he emphasized.
Health Measures for the School Year
As students prepare to return to class, municipal health officials are also coordinating with the Education Secretariat to regulate school cafeterias and cooperatives, aiming to reduce the consumption of foods high in calories and sodium.
The initiative complements the state’s 3xMiSalud program, which promotes balanced diets, physical activity, and healthier eating habits.
In addition, Primary Care Centers across the municipality continue to offer free nutrition guidance and mental health services, with a particular focus on suicide prevention and psychological support for both students and workers.
Uribe closed by urging residents to make use of Playa del Carmen’s free and accessible municipal health services. “We have the resources to support families, but it’s essential that people seek medical attention at the first sign of illness,” he said.
