Playa del Carmen, Mexico – The Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security has reinforced surveillance in the beach area, particularly at the pier and Fundadores Park, with the goal of maintaining a 100% family-friendly, safe, and clean environment, as well as preventing administrative infractions related to excessive alcohol consumption and other behaviors that affect social coexistence and public hygiene.
This action is being carried out in response to requests from residents, service providers, and merchants in the city center, who asked for greater police presence due to the arrival of some individuals who, on weekends, come to the area exclusively to consume excessive amounts of alcoholic beverages, sleep in public spaces, relieve themselves in the sand, and disturb public order.
The operation is based on the provisions of the municipal Regulation of Civic and Itinerant Justice, whose Article 46 states that it constitutes an infraction against collective order and well-being to consume or incite the consumption of alcoholic beverages in unauthorized public places, as well as to smoke in areas where it is prohibited for safety and public health reasons.
Informative signs have been placed at the site to warn citizens about restrictions on the abuse and consumption of alcoholic beverages, with the purpose of maintaining harmonious coexistence between residents and visitors and reinforcing respect for municipal regulations.
The Secretariat of Citizen Security clarifies that access to the beaches is not restricted for anyone, as they are public spaces open to all; however, it is important to comply with the authorities’ provisions to preserve order, cleanliness, and the common good.
Through preventive patrols and constant monitoring by C4, the aim is to preserve tranquility, cleanliness, and security in this emblematic area of Playa del Carmen, ensuring a dignified and safe environment for families, tourists, and workers in the area. (Source: Playa del Carmen City Council)
