Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The Government of Playa del Carmen, headed by Municipal President Estefanía Mercado, has announced that, as a result of a collaboration agreement with the Quintana Roo State Institute of Mobility (IMOVEQROO), the service for issuing driver's licenses and permits is now being offered from modules installed within the Secretariat of Citizen Security.

The service hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Citizens can apply for licenses for automobiles and motorcycles, as well as for cargo and passenger transport, in accordance with the modalities and validities established by IMOVEQROO.

For example, a Type A license for an automobile driver costs from 1,324 pesos for two years to 2,113 pesos for five years, while a motorcycle license ranges from 781 to 1,094 pesos for the same period. Young people aged 15 to 17 have the possibility of obtaining a special permit valid for 180 days at a cost of 872 pesos, always with authorization from a guardian and upon meeting the established requirements.

Foreign nationals, for their part, can apply for provisional licenses with validities of 30, 60, 90, or 120 days, with costs ranging from 328 to 1,312 pesos. This requires presenting a valid passport, immigration document, and driving certificate, among other requirements.

The public is reminded that the driving and eye exam certificates, which are essential for the issuance of any license, cost 2.5 UMAS (Units of Measure and Update).

The current agreement between the Playa del Carmen Government and IMOVEQROO will remain in effect until the end of the current administration in 2027, guaranteeing certainty and continuity of this service. Concurrently, the IMOVEQROO offices will continue to operate as usual, and the opening of a new module in Puerto Aventuras is being considered to bring this service even closer to the population.

With these actions, the Government of Playa del Carmen reaffirms its commitment to facilitating essential procedures that contribute to the mobility and road safety of all citizens. (Source: Ayuntamiento de Playa del Carmen)
