Playa del Carmen’s Cultural Guild Pushes Creative City Project

Representatives of Playa del Carmen's cultural guild discuss the Creative and Intelligent City project

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — In 2026, the main objective of the Citizen Council of Science, Culture and Arts of Playa del Carmen will be to implement the “Creative and Intelligent City” project and obtain UNESCO backing for it.

Daniela Jáuregui, representative of the Council, highlighted this point during the posada celebrated by the artistic guild, where she also spoke about the creation of the Fundraising Coordination.

The idea, it should be noted, emerged during the 2nd Colloquium “Present and Future Scenarios of Culture in Quintana Roo,” held from December 5 to 7, 2025, in Cancún and Playa del Carmen, when panelists from the University of Quintana Roo presented on the topic of Creative and Intelligent Cities with design and innovation for the development of a city. This presentation highlighted the need to have this destination as a living, accessible, sustainable, inclusive space designed for quality of life, where architecture, design and culture interact to improve environments.

The idea is to rethink Playa del Carmen through its multicultural richness to make it a Creative City and a source of sustainable income, to stop depending on high seasons within the tourism industry.

Daniela Jáuregui considered that a local industry for the culture of Quintana Roo should be generated.
