Playa del Carmen, Mexico — With the participation of emergency services from across the country and international delegations, Municipal President Estefanía Mercado today inaugurated the National Congress of Firefighters, Playa del Carmen 2025, which will run until next Friday, October 31.

Accompanied by firefighters from all over Mexico, Mercado highlighted that the congress is a space for training, exchanging experiences, and institutional strengthening, where vocation, discipline, and a spirit of service converge.

"Today Playa del Carmen welcomes those who make civil protection their reason for being. Your work is an example of solidarity without borders," she stated.

She also underscored the advances achieved in civil protection and pre-hospital care, including an increase in ambulances from two to seven fully equipped units, the treatment of more than 1,400 medical emergencies, and the execution of 11,000 preventive inspections.

Furthermore, she mentioned that Puerto Aventuras and Villas del Sol now have stationary ambulances, and that in the coming months, 27 new personnel and state-of-the-art ambulances will be added.

The event included the participation of the State Coordinator of Civil Protection, Guillermo Núñez, who emphasized that, under the leadership of Governor Mara Lezama, Quintana Roo is advancing toward a more prepared and resilient state.

Also speaking was the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection of Tijuana, José Alejandro Avilés Amezcua, who recognized the value of these meetings for their capacity to create collaboration networks between institutions across the continent.

For his part, the Municipal Secretary of Civil Protection, Darwin Covarrubias Góngora, highlighted that Playa del Carmen is experiencing historic growth in its emergency response capacity, thanks to a modern and inclusive public policy.

The congress, which brings together instructors from Tijuana, Sinaloa, Los Angeles, and Chile, in addition to firefighters from various states in the country, will offer workshops, conferences, and technical demonstrations for five days, reaffirming Playa del Carmen as the operational heart of the Mexican Caribbean and a national benchmark in civil protection.
