Employees of the Federal Judiciary (PJF) have been protesting at the administrative building of the "Maya Train" project in Mérida, Yucatán. This protest comes in response to the recent approval of the "Judicial Reform" by federal deputies. The employees are voicing their opposition to the reform imposed by President Andrés Manual López Obrador.
The protesters, who represent one of the current administration's flagship projects, chanted slogans such as "Without Party Colors, Justice Without Parties", "Independent Justice, Present Democracy", and "The Judiciary Will Not Fall, it Will Not Fall". They also held signs with messages like "The Impartial Judge, is from the Judicial Career" and "Independence Yes, Presidential Control NO". As part of their protest, they blocked access to the administrative building, preventing other workers from entering.
Some employees of the "Maya Train" project managed to enter the building by jumping the fence, while others chose to leave the area. Despite the disruption, the protest remained peaceful. The National Guard is currently guarding the administrative facilities from the inside.
Rocío Shae Ortiz, a representative of the Federal Judiciary workers, has warned that the protests against the "Judicial Reform" will escalate in the coming days. A march is planned for next Friday along Paseo Montejo, with the aim of garnering public support for their cause.
The protesters have expressed disappointment that the majority legislators did not consult the Judiciary before approving the reform. They also criticized the haste with which the reform was pushed through, as President López Obrador's term ends later this month.
