Ciudad de México — Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation has announced a $1.3 billion investment plan for Mexico spanning 2026 to 2030, with a commitment to double its poultry production capacity in the state of Yucatán.
The announcement was made during “La Mañanera del Pueblo,” the daily press briefing of President Claudia Sheinbaum. Fabio Sandri, Global President of Pilgrim’s Pride, detailed the five-year investment strategy. He stated that $200 million will be allocated to Durango and Coahuila, $150 million to Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, and Hidalgo, and $950 million to Veracruz, Campeche, and Yucatán.
“Similarly, $950 million in the southern region of the country, primarily in the state of Veracruz, where we are doubling the productive capacity of our feed plants and hatcheries in a first phase,” Sandri declared. “In the next phase, we will be installing a new, complete processing plant. Subsequently, we will also be opening an additional production center in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec area, where we will be putting in a new feed plant and a new hatchery.
“Likewise, in the Campeche area, we are increasing our productive capacity there as well. And in the Yucatán area, doubling our current capacity,” Sandri added.
This investment is framed within the “Plan México” initiative to contribute to food self-sufficiency.
“This bet that they are making, because it is essentially for the domestic market, is because they have done well and because they know that investing in Mexico is safe and allows them to keep moving forward,” President Claudia Sheinbaum stated. “Obviously we want to guarantee food self-sufficiency and sovereignty, which is a broader concept, with these companies and also with local production, with what small producers do through, not only grain production, but also animal production. So it’s both parts, both industrialized agricultural production and the small producers that we want to also live well from the production they carry out. So, of course it contributes to Plan México and contributes to the country’s food self-sufficiency.”
Regarding potential pollution from poultry plants, Fabio Sandri assured that the necessary systems will be installed for responsible production with zero effects on communities. He emphasized that Pilgrim’s generates prosperity in the regions where it operates, creating direct employment.
