Cancún, Quintana Roo — A serious traffic accident occurred on Friday afternoon on the Mérida-Cancún highway bypass when a pickup truck driver allegedly cut off a motorcyclist, causing the rider to be thrown onto the pavement. Paramedics provided first aid and transported him urgently to the IMSS Specialties Hospital.
The accident was reported around 3:45 p.m. on Friday when emergency services received a call to 911 requesting the presence of authorities and first aid services for a traffic incident on the mentioned roadway between Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard and Huayacán Avenue, with reference to the area behind Cancún International Airport.
State Highway Police officers arrived at the accident scene, where it was confirmed that the driver of an Italika brand motorcycle had collided with the side of a pickup truck when the latter’s driver changed lanes, apparently to make a U-turn, causing the serious incident.
The officers requested support from paramedics who, upon arriving at the scene, confirmed that the man had vital signs, although he was in serious condition due to the strong impact. After providing first aid, he was taken by ambulance to the IMSS Specialties Hospital, where his health status remains unknown at this time.
It was also indicated that state police detained the man, who was taken to the facilities of the Secretariat of Citizen Security, where a doctor certified him before he was made available to the Public Ministry at the State Attorney General’s Office, the authority that will ultimately determine responsibilities.
It should be mentioned that some witnesses at the scene indicated that the pickup truck driver cut off the motorcyclist. However, no surveillance cameras were located in the area where the incident occurred. The vehicles involved were towed to an impound lot where they will remain until the forensic investigation is completed.
