Cancun, Quintana Roo — A pickup truck was completely destroyed by fire early Saturday after crashing into an electrical structure on Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard, one of the main arteries into the city.
According to initial reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle for reasons still under investigation. The truck left the roadway and struck a concrete barrier surrounding an electrical installation, sparking a fire that quickly engulfed the entire vehicle.
Flames consumed the truck within minutes, sending a thick column of smoke visible from various parts of the area. Motorists passing by reported the incident to emergency services, prompting a response from rescue and security units.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and worked to control and extinguish the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby infrastructure or endangering other vehicles on the boulevard. One lane remained partially closed during the operation, causing temporary traffic disruptions.
Despite the severity of the impact and the fire, both the driver and a passenger managed to escape the vehicle before it was fully engulfed. They sustained injuries and received medical attention at the scene. No fatalities were reported.
After the fire was extinguished, only the truck’s metal frame remained, highlighting the total loss caused by the incident. The vehicle was later removed by a tow truck to clear the roadway and allow for further investigation.
The driver was taken into custody to give a statement as part of the investigation to determine the cause of the accident and what led to the loss of control.
